Next Project is Underway!

 | February 4, 2009 5:03 pm

Course, we aren’t going to tell you what it is just yet.  Hopefully we get it done in time for Anime Weekend this year.  Course some of us are pushing for AX, but we’ll just have to see if we can pull that one off fast enough.  This is a pretty big one, even for us, so there is a lot of work to be done.  Now, where to get more clay…..

Anime Weekend Atlanta 2008

 | September 21, 2008 3:09 pm

AWA 2008 was great this year.  Despite Brandi being sick most of the weekend from a cold, we had a great time.  Actually the best AWA yet.  One thing that really saved it was there was no Sunday morning private brunch this year.  In all past years at this location, they have had a Sunday morning private brunch that they started setting up on Saturday night.  That made the lobby of the hotel off limits to AWA and just killed Saturday night activities.  In 2007, we just stayed in our room Saturday night.  This year, there was no brunch so the party was on in the lobby and at the bar.  It was greally great getting to hang with Jeff and Bernie as well as Yadi, Bill, Tina, and every else (don’t mean to leave anyone out).  One couple we really wanted to hang out with more was Anne and James.  We kept missing them.

Pictures are in the Gallery.  Enjoy!

Another Dragon Flies Past

 | September 6, 2008 4:15 pm

Wow.  So another DragonCon has flown past and is now nothing but a memory of good times past.  Strange.  I’ve been going to DragonCon since the mid 1990’s and it is always the one thing I spend the whole year waiting for only to have it go by so fast.  So fast.  We arrived early, think 10am, Thursday morning and were shocked to be in our room settled by 11am.  In past years, I’ve arrived early to get our room at the Hyatt only to wait for hours sitting in the lobby for a room to be available.  This year, we decided to stay at the Marriott and they were just, simply, amazing wonderful.  I don’t know where to begin.

Management at the Marriott should be awarded a medal for the absolutely amazing job they did at DC.  Security was completely provided by the hotel and they were wonderfully professional and polite.  Sure, they could be firm, but they thanked you for listening afterwards.  It was a shocking contrast to the militarized zone the Hyatt creates with hired Atlanta Police officers.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the police, but hordes of cops create a different atmosphere than guys in suites and ties.  The Police work a hard life and they have to be firm.  That kind of existance can make them seem very over the top when dealing with some of us geeks in our plastic and cardboard.

I could go on and on about the Marriott, they just did a great job.  Heck, even the lady that cleaned our room was absolutely awesome!!  “You want more towels?  Absolutely!”  Wow, just wow.

Over all it went by crazy fast and seemed a little off this year.  I think it was because of the radical changes that have taken place with the layout.  Years past it has always been the Hyatt.  That was where the party was at night, but that has now all moved over to the Marriott where they seem to welcome it and have 20x the footage available.  However, what DC has done is break up the mingling of fandoms.  The gamers are over in the Hyatt, the wild partiers are in the Sheraton, the cool kids are in the Marriott and the Goths are in the Hyatt.  It kind of breaks something that I think makes DC so great, the interaction of different communities in fandom.

In the past, you could expect a guy with a pocket for of D20s to be standing next to an amazingly hot goth girl who was talking to a guy in Colonial Marine armor who’s wife was in her Wolfe Pack Elite gear.  Now, they are kind of broken apart and paths don’t really cross.  We never made it to the Hyatt, other than to walk through it to get to another location, until Monday morning.  It was the first time all weekend that I suddenly felt like I was at DC again.  It was the memories of the Hyatt.  I saw my first goths and I was a little sad by it.

We didn’t get to see half the people we wanted to and got to hang out with even less.  I saw most of my 501st Garrison and got to spend some time with a few of them.  The 501st Mixer was amazing, but so packed I couldn’t get in until things were ending.  We didn’t get to spend anytime with our Cobra Cares friends.  We won’t make that mistake next year.  We got to spend some time with Reanna and Grant on Friday night, but again not enough time considering.

Things I was really happy about.  Reanna and Grant getting to costume as ANBU, very cool, just wish we had seen them in person.  Winning the Friday night Costume Contest along with Lynn in our Class and winning the Audience Choice as well.  The Doctor Steel rally on Sunday, that was a blast and can’t wait to do it bigger and better next year.  Top place goes to Joey and his YipYip.  Great guy, great costume and he totally got the attention he so deserved for it, just can’t believe someone else made one and entered the costume contest with it Sunday night.

Thats all for now.  Pictures are in the Gallery (click the view gallery link on the right under the preview pic).  Next up is Anime Weekend Atlanta, followed by our anniversary (OMG a Year already!!) trip to Disney and then Atlanta Super Con a new con in town in November.

TimeGate 2008

 | May 26, 2008 3:01 pm

We just got back from TimeGate 2008 here in Atlanta, Ga.  This was their first year with a full con.  The past two years it has been a one day event at a local lodge.  This year they broke the mole and went for a full 4 day con, taking advantage of Memorial Day.  Overall it was a good little con.  We are not huge Dr. Who or Stargate fans, so during the day it got a little dull for us, but I can’t complain about anything at this con.  Registration was great, there were loads of panels, the video room was always running and there were a few parties as well.  The con suite should get some major praise due to the work of Terresa and her team.  Only recommendation I could make would be to show the original Stargate movie sometime during the weekend.

Pictures are in the Events section here.

We’ll be heading out to Alabama for OmegaCon the weekend of March 15th. It is the first year for this new con so we are really hoping it goes off really well. They appear to have had a few issues with guests, but that is to be understood the first year round. Look for a report and photos after we get back. If you’re going to be there, be on the lookout for Deatheaters, Dr. Steel Toy Soldiers, and maybe even a little Naruto.

Atlanta Comics Expo 2008

 | February 6, 2008 10:42 am

We’ll be heading out to the Atlanta Comics Expo from 2/8-2/10 in downtown Atlanta.  This will be the second year for ACE.  Of course, that depends on how you look at it.  The Comics Expo actually originated years ago before it merged with what is now DragonCon.  Now ACE is managed by the same team that manages DragonCon, but it is targetted at a smaller audience.  You can think of it as DragonCon Lite.

Brandi will be judging the Iron Costumer contest and I’ll be hosting.  Hmm, I wonder if this might be a good time to break Robot back out for a little fun?

Angry Dog Wedding

 | November 11, 2007 12:29 pm

We are proud to say that on Oct 12th, 2007 the two halves of Angry Dog Armor were happily married at Rhodes Hall in downtown Atlanta.  We spent our honeymoon at Walt Disney world and are now settling in to our new life together.  That means we are painting and moving into a new house still.

The marriage planning, wedding, honeymoon, purchasing a new home, moving into said home, painting said new home, fixing things in said new home and explaining to a very confused cat that this is his new home has taken alot out of us time wise.  But don’t worry!  We will be back to costuming very soon.

DragonCon 2007…Another Year Gone By.

 | September 10, 2007 9:19 pm

We had a great time at DragonCon yet again this year.  It is just such a great opportunity to see old friends and make new ones.  This year was a little off organizationally due to all the traffic routing issues with the Marriott being under construction, but it was still a great time.  Brandi and I really didn’t have much time to experience the post con depression due to the wedding planning and buying a house, but we still felt that post con tug on our hearts as friends headed out to their different areas of the country/world.

Steampunk really seemed to be the new and upcoming thing.  Brandi and I are not ones to jump on the bandwagon, but it is just such a great movement we really must do something for next year.  We are already talking, along with others, about possible ideas.  I can’t wait to work on this one.  Course, the schedule is starting to get really packed for next year.

Part of the crew from  Absolutely amazing Steampunk group.  Check out their site for other projects.

Our pictures are posted in the Gallery.  Just click on the “View Gallery” link under the gallery preview on the right of this page.
