Return to Megacon!

 | October 13, 2014 10:47 pm

We made it back to Megacon!  This was an early staple with Brandi and I.  It was great to be able to return after several years.  Great costumes, awesome location (though crowded  in the new building, glad they are moving it back to the old one next year).  I would actually like to go back again just to shoot photography.  We got in some time in our own costumes, but I took a good number of shots from around the con.  I need to make a better point to take some of ourselves for these posts. – Jimmy

MTAC 2014

 | 10:41 pm

Middle Tennessee Anime Con took place just outside of Nashville.  This was an “interesting” year as they were moved to a much smaller hotel location.  It was way to small for attendance.  That is something they will need to figure out next year.  That said, I had a blast hanging with our friends.  The hotel really reached out to the adult attendees with a free bar and breakfast!  Here are a few shots from the con including some of Brandi and our friend  Katrina ( in their Date A Live costumes as well as a few other shots from around the con. ~ Jimmy

Katsucon 2014

 | 10:29 pm

Brandi and I branched out and hit up Katsucon while we were in the Washington, DC area.  This is an interesting con.  I can’t say it was the kind of con I would go out of my way to go back to again.  It wasn’t bad, other than some major major issues with registration, it just seems to be to industry for me.  By industry, I mean many people seem to be there not for the con, but on the hopes of being discovered.  It is a beautiful location and there are almost 2 photographers for every cosplayer (kidding of course).  I’m a photographer myself, so I’m not knocking photography, it just didn’t feel alive like a lot of the cons I really enjoy.

If you are in the area, it is worth going to, heck it is worth it just for the amazing hotel.  I just don’t know that I would go back specifically for it anytime soon.  Here are a few shots I took at the con. ~ Jimmy (AngryDogStudios CEO and Photographer)

Project Post Recovery!

 | 10:22 pm

So I did some updates on the site that seemed to have wiped out all of my 2014 posts.  I’m going to be reposting them here shortly.

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Christmas Parade with the 501st

 | December 13, 2013 11:50 pm

I had a chance to go out with the 501st for their appearance in the CHOA Christmas Parade as a photographer.  This is a yearly even for us going back to 2002.  It is a fun little parade that has really grown over the years.  This year it moved down the street due to construction downtown and actually started right in front of my office.  Nothing like parking in your office garage on a Sat for the parade and walking out the front door to your group’s staging point.  Here are a few pics from the event.

Seishun Con 2013

 | June 30, 2013 1:57 am

Jimmy broke away from working on props for DragonCon to run by Seishun Con for a couple of hours. Seishun is a growing con that was held at the Hilton Atlanta Convention Center in Marietta.

MTAC 2013

 | April 5, 2013 4:59 pm

We had a great time at MTAC this year. Probably better than the last time we went, but this was our first year at the new Nashville location. The extra space is really appreciated, but I couldn’t help but feel they were pushing it already in terms of space and people. One word of note for next year, MTAC, you have to have more lines for registration. That line was crazy! Here are a few pics from the con. Wish I had a chance to get more pictures of friends, but I was working the con this year and was busy much of the time.

Momocon 2013

 | March 20, 2013 9:17 pm

Momocon continues to just grow and grow into a great anime con in Atlanta. They broke 12,000 visitors this year! Located at the Hilton in downtown Atlanta, Momocon is an Anime Con with roots as a free convention associated with Georgia Tech. Last year they broke out and made a run at full con at an Atlanta hotel and hit on something successful. We hosted two panels this year. Convention Horror stories Saturday night was a standing room only event that allowed people to tell their own horror stories from conventions past. Prop Forge offered people the chance to meet Angry Dog Studios and get a hands on chance to look at various prop making methods and options ranging from vac forming to resin to modern materials like wonderflex and worbla.

Hosting panels keep us busy, but I still had time to take a few pictures here and there. Feel free to download.

Con Nooga 2013

 | 9:07 pm

So we’ve not had a lot of luck with ConNooga over the years. It is officially our Jinxed Con every year. Hoping we would break that curse this year didn’t work out so well. In 2011 both of us got a very serious case of food poisoning at the hotel. In 2012 I (Jimmy), experienced serious enough issues that I ended up in the emergency room that Sunday morning. This year, Brandi slipped and twisted her ankle Friday morning as we were leaving the house. She was barely able to walk at all over the weekend.

The con itself is changing. This year it split locations between the Chattanooga ChooChoo and the Marriott Convention Center. It really needs to just move to the Convention Center. The Marriott Convention Center is a great location with a nice hotel attached. Going there felt like a more classic convention. The ChooChoo location is too spread apart and forces you to walk in the cold and rain or snow all weekend. Though we may just skip this con next year due to the curse, I really hope it moves 100% to the convention center going forward.

I took a handful of pictures over the weekend. Please enjoy!

DragonCon Pictures!!!!!!

 | September 10, 2012 9:49 pm

What an amazing DragonCon this year. Literally the best DragonCon for us in several years. Not that the others were bad, but this year we took it easy and did a bit more costuming. I (Jimmy) didn’t take as many pics as normal and no real formal photoshoots, but I did take a few shots you can find in the gallery at

DragonCon has some serious challenges with attendance they are going to have to face before next year. I said the same last year, but this year it was painfully crowded at times. The Marriott was starting to do the same things the Hyatt started years ago with asking people to keep moving. If DragonCon doesn’t make major strides to resolve this by next year I’m worried they will lose control of the situation all-together.

The hotels are already showing some early signs of putting in new policies to control the room process. Expect to pay up front at the time of reservation for the first night. Expect to NOT be able to transfer rooms or DragonCon badges. One other policy I’ve heard of is the name on the reservation has to the be same as the name on the credit card when you check into the room. So if you book a bunch of extra rooms for your unconfirmed friends, you are going to pay for the first night upfront and you’ll have to put their rooms on your card during the con.

It will certainly be interesting times next year. Still… con in the world.
